The proposal for the World Interfaith Harmony Week (WIHW)—aimed at promoting a culture of peace and non-violence—was first put forward by King Abdullah II of Jordan at the United Nations in 2010. It was immediately adopted by the United Nations General Assembly, which designated the first week of February each year as the World Interfaith Harmony Week.
