Ancient names of occupations and crops
प्राचीन भारत में व्यवसायों के प्राचीन नाम आज के नाम से अलग होते थे उनमें से कुछ प्रसिद्ध व्यवसाय के नाम और उनकी संस्थाओं के नाम निम्नानुसार है।
In ancient India, the names of professions were different from today's names. Some of the famous professions and their institutions are as follows.
1. कारीगर- कारीगर को प्राचीन समय में ‘’कारूक’’ कहा जाता था यह आमतौर पर भवन निर्माण का कार्य करते थे।
Artisan- Artisan was called “Karuk” in ancient times. They usually used to do the work of building construction.
2. कुम्हार- प्राचीन समय में कुम्हार को ‘’कुलाल’’ कहा जाता था। कुम्हार प्रमुख रूप से मिट्टी के बर्तन, मूर्ति आदि बनाने का कार्य करते थे।
Potter- In ancient times, the potter was called "Kulal". Potters mainly used to make earthen pots, idols etc.
3. लौहार- प्राचीन काल में लौहार को ‘’कर्मकार’’ कहा जाता था। यह लौहे का काम करने वाले व्यक्ति होते थे।
Blacksmith- In ancient times, blacksmiths were called "Karmakar". These were people who worked with iron.
4. बढ़ई- बढ़ई को प्राचीन काल में ‘’बर्धकिन’’ कहा जाता था यह प्रमुख रूप से लकड़ी का कार्य करने वाले लोग होते थे।
Carpenter- Carpenters were called "Bardhakin" in ancient times. They were mainly people who worked with wood.
5. नाई- नाई को प्राचीन समय में ‘’नापित’’ कहा जाता था।
Barber- Barber was called “Napit” in ancient times.
6. धोबी- धोबी को प्राचीन काल में ‘’रजक’’ कहा जाता था।
. Dhobi- Dhobi was called “Rajak” in ancient times.
7. लकड़हारा- लकड़हारे को प्राचीन काल में ‘’तक्षन’’ कहा जाता था। Woodcutter- Woodcutter was called “Takshan” in ancient times.
8. जुलाहा- प्राचीन काल में जुलाहा को ‘’तन्तुवाय’’ कहा जाता था। यह प्रमुख रूप से बुनकर का कार्य करते थे।
Weaver- In ancient times, weaver was called “Tantuvay”. He mainly worked as a weaver.
फसलों के प्राचीन नाम:-

प्राचीन काल में प्रमुख फसलों के नाम आधुनिक काल से अलग होते थे। फसलों के यह प्राचीन नाम निम्नानुसार है।
In ancient times, the names of major crops were different from modern times. These ancient names of crops are as follows.
1. चावल- प्राचीन काल में चावल को ‘’बृही’’ कहा जाता था । Rice- In ancient times rice was called "Brihi"
2. गेंहूं- गेहूं को ‘गोधुम’ कहा जाता था।
Wheat- Wheat was called ‘Godhum’.
3. जौ- जौ का प्राचीन नाम ‘यव’ था।
Barley- The ancient name of barley was ‘Yava’.
4. केसर- केसर का प्राचीन नाम ‘’प्रियंगु’’ था।
Saffron- The ancient name of saffron was "Priyangu"
5. सरसों- सरसों का प्राचीन नाम ‘’सर्षप’’ था।
Mustard- The ancient name of mustard was "Sarshap".
6. गन्ना- गन्ने का प्राचीन नाम ‘’ईछु’’ था।
Sugarcane- The ancient name of sugarcane was "Ichhu".
7. मोटा अनाज- मोटे अनाज को प्राचीन काल में ‘’कोद्रव’’ कहते थे।
Coarse grains – Coarse grains were called “Kodrav” in ancient times.
8. अंगूर- अंगूर को प्राचीन काल में ‘’मृद्दीक’’ कहते थे।
Grapes – Grapes were called “Mriddik” in ancient times.
इनमें से गेहूं और जौ सबसे प्राचीन फसले हैं यह फसलें दुनिया में सबसे पहले उगाई गई थी।
