Major festivals and celebrations of Madhya Pradesh:
प्रदेश में मुख्य रूप से खजुराहो, भोजपुर एवं पचमढ़ी में शिवरात्रि का उत्सव धूमधाम से मनाया जाता है लोककला- संस्कृति को जीवित रखने में इंदौर, माण्डू व उज्जैन का मालवा उत्सव एवं खजुराहो के नृत्य उत्सव का विशिष्ट योगदान है इसके अतिरिक्त मध्य प्रदेश में निम्नलिखित पर्व एवं उत्सव भी मनाये जाते है।
In the state, the festival of Shivratri is celebrated with great pomp and show, mainly in Khajuraho, Bhojpur, and Pachmarhi. The Malwa festival of Indore, Mandu, and Ujjain, and the dance festival of Khajuraho, make a significant contribution to preserving folk art and culture. In addition to these, the following festivals and celebrations are also observed in Madhya Pradesh.
घड़ल्या- घड़ल्या पर्व में युवतियां सामूहिक रूप से एकत्रित होकर नीरजा (नवरात्रि) के अवसर पर नृत्य करती है इनमें एक युवती के सिर पर छिद्रयुक्त घड़ा रख कर व गाना गाते हुए अपने क्षेत्र में अनाज और पैसा एकत्र किया जाता है घड़ल्या पर्व के समान अविवाहित युवकों द्वारा छला नामक त्यौहार भी मनाया जाता है।
During the Ghadlya festival, young women gather together and perform dances on the occasion of Navratri. One young woman carries a perforated pot on her head while the others sing, and they collect grain and money from their community. A similar festival called Chhala is celebrated by unmarried young men.
सुआटा-मालवा के घड़ल्या पर्व के समान ही बुन्देलखण्ड क्षेत्र में सुआटा पर्व प्रसिद्ध है इस पर्व में दीवार राक्षस की अलंकृत प्रतिमा स्थापित की जाती है उसके ऊपरी भाग में शिव-पार्वती की प्रतिमा रखी जाती है तत्पश्चात् नवयुवतियां पूजन एवं गायन करती है।
Similar to the Ghadlya festival of Suata-Malwa, the Suata festival is popular in the Bundelkhand region. In this festival, an adorned effigy of a demon is installed on a wall, and an idol of Shiva and Parvati is placed on its upper part. Following this, young women perform worship and sing devotional songs.
भैय्या दूज- मध्यप्रदेश में भैय्या दूज पर्व वर्ष में दो बार मनाया जाता है एक चैत्र माह में होली के पश्चात् तथा दूसरा कार्तिक माह में दीपावली के पश्चात् मनाया जाता है।
Bhaiya Dooj - In Madhya Pradesh, the Bhaiya Dooj festival is celebrated twice a year: once in the month of Chaitra, after Holi, and again in the month of Kartik, after Diwali.
हरेटी- हरेटी पर्व श्रावण माह की अमावस्या के दिन मालवा एवं बुन्देलखण्ड के क्षेत्र में किसानों द्वारा मनाया जाता है यह श्रावण माह (पूर्णिमा) में मण्डला जिले में तथा आषाढ़ माह में मालवा जिले में मनाया जाता है मालवा क्षेत्र में इसे हर्यागोधा भी कहते है।
Harethi is a festival celebrated by farmers in the Malwa and Bundelkhand regions on the new moon day of the Shravan month. It is also celebrated in the Mandla district during the Shravan month (full moon) and in the Malwa district during the Ashadha month. In the Malwa region, it is also known as Haryagodha.
अक्षय तृतीया- बैशाख माह (अप्रैल-मई) की अक्षय तृतीया अविवाहित युवतियों का प्रमुख त्यौहार है जिसमें स्त्रियां वट वृक्ष की पूजा करती है।
Akshaya Tritiya – Akshaya Tritiya, which falls in the month of Vaishakh (April-May), is a major festival for unmarried women, during which they worship the banyan tree.
लारूकाज- गोंड जनजाति का प्रमुख पर्व लारूकाज, नारायण देव के सम्मान में मनाया जाता है यह पर्व सुअर के विवाह का प्रतीक हे मान्यता है कि इस पर्व से परिवार में सुख, समृद्धि और सम्पन्नता बनी रहती है।
Larukaj, the main festival of the Gond tribe, is celebrated in honor of Narayan Dev. This festival symbolizes the marriage of a pig, and it is believed that observing this festival brings happiness, prosperity, and abundance to the family.
बच्छावरस- यह पर्व श्रावण मास में मनाया जाता है इस अवसर पर महिलाएं गायों की पूजा करती है तथा केवल बाजरा, मोठ व चने से बना भोजन ग्रहण करती है।
Bachhavaras - This festival is celebrated in the month of Shravan. On this occasion, women worship cows and consume only food made from millet, moth beans, and chickpeas.
भगौरिया पर्व- भील जनजाति का यह पर्व होली के अवसर पर रबी की फसल पकने पर मनाया जाता है यह पर्व होलिका दहन से सात दिन पहले प्रारम्भ होता है इसमें मुख्यत: तीन पर्व मनाये जाते है पहले दो दिन गुलालिया, तत्पश्चात् दो दिन गोल गदेड़ो उत्सव तथा अन्ति दो दिन उजाडि़या उत्सव मनाया जाता है भगौरिया भीलों का प्रणय उत्सव् भी है।
Bhagoria Festival - This festival of the Bhil tribe is celebrated during Holi, coinciding with the ripening of the Rabi crop. The festival begins seven days before Holika Dahan and primarily consists of three parts: the first two days are dedicated to Gulalia, followed by two days of the Gol Gadedo festival, and the last two days are celebrated as the Ujadiya festival. Bhagoria is also considered a festival of love and courtship among the Bhils.
नवान्न पर्व Navanna Festival - बुन्देलखण्ड में फसल पकने पर दीपावली के 11वें दिन यह पर्व मनाया जाता है इस दिन गन्ना तथा ज्वार की पूजा की जाती है।
Navanna Festival - This festival is celebrated in Bundelkhand on the 11th day after Diwali, when the crops ripen. On this day, sugarcane and sorghum are worshipped.
गणगौर- मालवा अंचल में यह पर्व वर्श में दो बार मनाया जाता है एक बार चैत्र माह में तथा दूसरी बार भाद्रपद माह में इस पर्व में शिव-पार्वती जी की पूजा की जाती है।
Gangaur - This festival is celebrated twice a year in the Malwa region: once in the month of Chaitra and again in the month of Bhadrapada. Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati are worshipped during this festival.
नौराता- दशहरे के समय 9 दिनों तक चलने वाला यह पर्व मुख्यत: महिलाओं द्वारा मनाया जाता है इन 9 दिनों में स्त्रियां मां दुर्गा की पूजा करती है और अपवास रखती है कई महिलाएं गरबा नृत्य भी करती है।
Navratri is a nine-day festival celebrated during the time of Dussehra, primarily by women. During these nine days, women worship Goddess Durga and observe fasts. Many women also perform the Garba dance.
रसनवा- यह पर्व मंडला जिले के बैगाओं द्वारा आदि पुरूष नंगा बैगा की स्मृति में मनाया जाता है इस पर्व में बैगा लोग 9वें दिन मधुमक्खियों की पूजा करते है।
Rasanwa - This festival is celebrated by the Baiga community of Mandla district in memory of their ancestral figure, Nanga Baiga. During this festival, the Baiga people worship bees on the ninth day.
सजा व मामूलिया- यह पर्व अविवाहित युवतियों द्वारा मनाया जाता है जो आश्विन माह में 16 दिन तक चलता है इसके अनतर्गत नवयुवतियों अपने घरों की दीवार पर गोबर से विभिन्न आकृतियां बनाती है तथा शाम को सामूहिक नृत्य करती है।
Sajja and Mamuliya: This festival is celebrated by unmarried girls and lasts for 16 days in the month of Ashwin. During this festival, young girls create various designs on the walls of their homes using cow dung and perform group dances in the evening.
मडई- मउई दक्षिणी मध्यप्रदेश में गोंड एवं उनकी उपजातियां का पर्व है यह मंडला एवं डिंडोरी जिलों में मनाया जाता है।
Madai-Mauai is a festival of the Gond and their sub-tribes in southern Madhya Pradesh. It is celebrated in Mandla and Dindori districts.
