कालिदास संस्कृत भाषा के महान कवि एवं नाटककार थे। कालिदास, चंद्रगुप्त विक्रमादित्य के नवरत्नों में शामिल थे। अद्वितीय नाटकों की रचना के कारण कालिदास को भारत का शेक्सपीयर कहा जाता है।
Kalidasa was a great poet and playwright of the Sanskrit language. He was one of the nine gems (Navaratnas) in the court of Chandragupta Vikramaditya. Due to his exceptional plays, Kalidasa is often called the Shakespeare of India.

कुमारसंभवम् - कालिदास का प्रथम महाकाव्य, शिव- पार्वती विवाह, कुमार कार्तिकेय के जन्म एवं तारकासुर वध की कथा का वर्णन
Kumarasambhavam - Kalidasa's first epic, describing the story of Shiva-Parvati marriage, birth of Kumar Kartikeya and killing of Tarakasura.
