Article 51A
मौलिक कर्तव्य का प्रावधान मूल संविधान में नहीं था। इसे 42वें संविधान संशोधन अधिनियम 1976 द्वारा आपातकाल के दौरान जोड़ा गया। The provision for Fundamental Duties was not in the original Constitution. It was added by the 42nd Constitutional Amendment Act, 1976, during the Emergency.
· 42वें संशोधन द्वारा संविधान में एक नया भाग 4 ‘क’ तथा इसके अंतर्गत अनु. 51 ‘क’ जोड़ा गया। जिसमें 10 मूल कर्तव्य जोड़े गए। The 42nd Amendment added a new Part IV (A) to the Constitution, along with Article 51 (A) under it, which included 10 fundamental duties.
· 86वें संविधान संशोधन 2002 द्वारा शिक्षा से संबंधित 11वों मौलिक कर्तव्य जोड़ा गया।
· 11th fundamental duty related to education was added by the 86th Constitutional Amendment 2002.

11 मौलिक कर्तव्य इस प्रकार है:-
The 11 fundamental duties are as follows:-
1. संविधान का पालन करे तथा आदर्शों, संस्थाओं, राष्ट्रध्पज व राष्ट्रगान का आदर करें। To abide by the Constitution and respect its ideals, institutions, national flag and national anthem.
2. स्वतंत्रता के लिए हमारे आन्दोलन को प्रेरित करने वाले उच्च आदर्शों को ह्दय में संजोए रखे और उनका पालन करे।
To cherish and follow the high ideals that inspired our movement for freedom.
3. भारत की संप्रुता, एकता और अखण्डता की रक्षा करें और उसे अक्षुष्ण बनाए रखे।
To protect and preserve the sovereignty, unity and integrity of India.
4. देश की रक्षा करें और आह्वान किए जाने पर राष्ट्र की सेवा करें। 4. Defend the country and render national service when called upon to do so.
5. भारत के सभी लोगों में समरसता और समान भ्रातृत्व की भावना का निर्माण करें जो धर्म, भाषा और प्रदेश या वर्ग पर आधारित सभी भेदभाव से परे हो, ऐसी प्रथाओं का त्याग करें जो स्9ियों के सम्मान के विरूद्ध हो।
To foster among all the people of India a spirit of harmony and equal brotherhood transcending all distinctions based on religion, language, region or class, and to abandon practices derogatory to the dignity of women.
6. हमारी सामाजिक संस्कृति की गौरवशाली परम्परा का महत्व समझें और उसका परिरक्षण करें।
Understand the importance of the glorious tradition of our social culture and preserve it.
7. प्राकृतिक पर्यावरण की जिसके अंतर्गत वन, झील, नदी और वन्य जीव हे, रक्षा करें और उसके संवर्द्धन करें तथा प्राणाी मात्र के प्रति दयाभाव रखे।
Protect and enhance the natural environment including forests, lakes, rivers and wildlife and be kind to all living beings.
8. वैज्ञानिक दृष्टिकोण, मानववाद और ज्ञानाज्रन तथा सुधार की भावना का विकास करे
Develop scientific outlook, humanism and spirit of inquiry and reform
9. सार्वजनिक संपत्ति को सुरक्षित रखें और हिंसा से दूर रहे।
Protect public property and stay away from violence.
10. व्यक्तिगत और सामूहिक गतिविधियों के सभी नेत्रों में उत्कर्षकों ओर बढ़ावा का सत्त प्रयास करें, जिससे राष्ट्र निरंतर बढ़ते हुए प्रयत्न और उपलब्धि की नई ऊंचाइयों को छू ले।
To strive earnestly to promote excellence in all aspects of individual and collective activities, so that the nation may constantly rise to new heights of endeavour and achievement.
11. 6-14 की आयु के बच्चों के माता-पिता या अभिभावक या संरखक, अपने बच्चों को शिखा दिलाने का अवसर प्रदान करें (86वां संविधान संशोधन)
Parents or guardians or guardians of children in the age group of 6-14 years shall provide opportunities for education to their children (86th Constitutional Amendment)
2016 में SC द्वारा मौलिक कर्तव्यों के संबंध में महत्वपूर्ण निर्णय दिया गया जिसके अनुसार सिनेमा हॉल में फिल्म की शुरूबात में राष्ट्रगान का प्रसारण होगा और वहां उपस्थित सभी लोगों द्वारा इसके सम्मान में अनिवार्य है खड़ा होना और राष्ट्रगान के समय पदे्र पर राष्ट्रीय ध्वज का होना आवश्यक है।
In 2016, the SC gave an important decision regarding fundamental duties, according to which the national anthem will be played at the beginning of the film in the cinema hall and it is mandatory for all the people present there to stand in respect of it and it is necessary to have the national flag on the screen during the national anthem.
