Udayagiri Caves
ये गुफाएं विदिशा जिले में स्थित हैं जिनका प्राचीन नाम नीचौगिरी था। इनकी स्थापना चौथी से पाँचवी सदी में राजा भोज के पौत्र उदयादित्य ने की थी। उदयगिरी में कुल 20 गुफाएँ हैं, जो हिंदू व जैन धर्म से संबंधित हैं।
These caves are located in the Vidisha district, whose ancient name was Nichaugiri. They were established in the fourth to fifth centuries by Udayaditya, the grandson of King Bhoja. Udayagiri has a total of 20 caves, related to Hindu and Jain religions.
गुफा संख्या 1 तथा 20 को जैन गुफा माना जाता हैं उदयगिरि की गुफाएं वर्ष 1951 से भारतीय पुरातत्व सर्वेक्षण, भोपाल मंडल के अधीन सुरक्षित है।
Caves number 1 and 20 are considered Jain caves. The caves of Udayagiri are protected under the Archaeological Survey of India, Bhopal Circle since the year 1951.
यहाँ पर गुप्त संवत 425-426 ई. में उत्कीर्ण कुमार गुप्त प्रथम के शासन काल का एक अभिलेख भी स्थित है, जिसमें शंकर नाम व्यक्ति द्वारा गुफा के प्रवेश द्वारा में जैन तीर्थकर पार्श्वनाथ की मुर्ति प्रतिस्थापित किए जाने का उल्लेख है।
An inscription from the reign of Kumar Gupta I, engraved in Gupta Samvat 425-426 AD, is also located here, which mentions the installation of the idol of Jain Tirthankar Parshvanath at the entrance of the cave by a person named Shankar.
प्रथम गुफा तीन दिशाओं में शैलकृत और एक दिशा में प्रस्तर खंडो से बनी हैं इस गुफा का नाम सूरज गुफा है इसमें 7 फीट लंबे और 6 फीट चौड़े कक्ष हैं।
The first cave is made of rocks on three sides and stone blocks on one side. The name of this cave is Suraj Cave. It has chambers 7 feet long and 6 feet wide.
चौथी गुफा में शिवलिंग की प्रतिमा है। इसके प्रवेश द्वार पर मनुष्य वीणा वादन करते हुए दिखाया गया है, जिसके कारण इस गुफा को बीन की गुफा कहते हैं। यह गुफा 13 फीट 11 इंच लंबी और 11 फीट 8 इंच चौड़ी है।
The fourth cave houses a Shivalinga. Its entrance depicts a man playing a veena, which is why it is known as the Veena Cave. This cave is 13 feet 11 inches long and 11 feet 8 inches wide.
पाँचवी गुफा में वराहवतार की प्रतिमा है, जिसे वराह गुफा के नाम से जाना जाता है यह गुफा 22 फीट लंबी और 12 फीट 8 इंच उंची है।
तेरहवीं गुफा में शंख लिपि उत्कीर्ण है, जो विश्व की प्राचीनतम लिपियों में से एक मानी जाती है। यह शेषशायी विष्णु की मुर्ति के लिए प्रसिद्ध है, जो 12 फीट लंबी है।
The fifth cave, known as the Varaha Cave, houses a statue of Varaha avatara. It is 22 feet long and 12 feet 8 inches high.
The thirteenth cave is engraved with the Shankha script, considered one of the oldest scripts in the world. It is famous for the 12-foot-tall statue of Vishnu reclining on Shesha.
