1. In the 2024 Environmental Performance Index (EPI), India is ranked 176th out of 180 countries. This marks a slight improvement from previous years, but the nation remains one of the lowest performers globally. The EPI, developed by Yale and Columbia universities, underscores India's significant challenges in areas such as air quality, biodiversity, and greenhouse gas emissions.

3. According to Mercer’s 2024 Cost of Living Survey, released on June 17, Mumbai remains the most expensive Indian city for expatriates, ranking 136th globally and 21st in Asia. New Delhi follows closely, ranking 30th within Asia, indicating significant shifts in living costs across Indian cities. Despite economic challenges, India continues to offer cost advantages for global talent recruitment. The survey notes varying increases in housing and consumer goods costs in major Indian cities, with Delhi seeing the highest rise. Mumbai tops the list for transportation and personal care expenses, while Kolkata is the most affordable for basic necessities. Globally, Hong Kong maintains its position as the most expensive city for expatriates, highlighting diverse cost-of-living trends around the world.
4. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has revoked the license of Purvanchal Co-operative Bank in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, due to insufficient capital and poor earning prospects. As a result, the Commissioner for Cooperation and Registrar of Cooperative Societies in Uttar Pradesh has been directed to begin the bank’s liquidation process and appoint a liquidator. During the liquidation, depositors are entitled to receive up to Rs 5 lakh from the Deposit Insurance and Credit Guarantee Corporation (DICGC) under their deposit insurance coverage.
5. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has levied fines on Central Bank of India and Sonali Bank PLC for violations related to customer protection and Know Your Customer (KYC) norms. Central Bank of India received a penalty of ₹1.45 crore for issues such as improper loan sanctioning and delays in reversing unauthorized transactions. Sonali Bank PLC was fined ₹96.4 lakh for failing to comply with the KYC Directions of 2016. These actions underscore the RBI’s dedication to upholding regulatory and statutory compliance within the banking industry.
6. Chinese scientists have achieved a significant breakthrough in solar research using their solar exploration satellite, the Chinese H-alpha Solar Explorer (CHASE). This research has resulted in the discovery of a new pattern of solar atmospheric rotation.
