2. In a move to bolster road safety, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has forged a partnership with the Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) Delhi, a premier technical university set up by the Government of National Capital Territory (NCT). Through this collaborative effort, the two entities aim to harness the power of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to enhance the visibility and maintenance of road signs along India's vast network of National Highways, spanning over 25,000 kilometers.

 

3. In a significant decision, the Union Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has given the green light to the Airports Authority of India's (AAI) proposal to revamp the Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport in Varanasi, with a substantial investment of Rs 2,870 crore. The ambitious project encompasses the construction of a state-of-the-art terminal building, apron extension, runway extension, parallel taxi track, and associated infrastructure development.

 

4. In the latest Global Energy Transition Index published by the World Economic Forum (WEF) on June 19, 2024, India has climbed three spots to secure the 63rd position among 120 nations, up from its previous ranking of 67th. Sweden has retained its top spot, solidifying its position as a global leader in the energy transition landscape. The WEF report has particularly praised India's notable progress in ensuring energy equity, security, and sustainability, underscoring the country's commitment to a cleaner and more reliable energy future.

 

 

5. In a significant move to enhance India's maritime trade infrastructure, the Indian government has given the nod for the development of a new major port at Vadhavan, located in the Dahanu taluka of Palghar district, Maharashtra. This ambitious project, which aligns with the PM Gatishakti initiative, is poised to give a major fillip to the country's foreign trade capabilities and stimulate local economic growth. The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved this strategic project on June 19, 2024, paving the way for a significant boost to India's trade and commerce landscape.

 

6.  In a significant milestone, SabPaisa, a leading payment solutions provider, has received the green light from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to operate as a licensed Payment Aggregator (PA) under the provisions of the Payments and Settlement Systems Act, 2007. This final approval from the RBI marks a major achievement for SabPaisa, solidifying its position as a trusted and compliant player in the Indian payments ecosystem.

 

7. In a significant development, General Anil Chauhan, the Chief of Defence Staff, unveiled the Joint Doctrine for Cyberspace Operations during a high-level meeting of the Chiefs of Staff Committee (COSC) on June 18, 2024, in New Delhi. This landmark doctrine serves as a foundational guide for military commanders, providing them with a comprehensive framework to navigate the intricacies of cyberspace operations in the modern, rapidly evolving military landscape.
