Exam Rewards presents you with daily current affairs updates that are invaluable for all your exam preparations. Today’s highlights include:
1. According to a recent forecast by the National Council of Applied Economic Research (NCAER), India's GDP is poised to exceed 7% and potentially reach 7.5% in the fiscal year 2024-25. This optimistic outlook is attributed to the country's resilient domestic economic indicators and favorable global conditions. Recent high-frequency data has revealed a surge in economic activity, prompting all major agencies to revise their forecasts upward. The expected normalcy of the monsoon season, combined with a policy focus on investment and stability, are key factors contributing to this positive economic outlook.
2. State Bank of India (SBI) has achieved a major milestone by securing Rs 10,000 crore through its fifth infrastructure bond issue. The 15-year bonds, carrying an annual coupon rate of 7.36%, attracted substantial investor interest, resulting in an oversubscription of nearly four times the initial base size of Rs 5,000 crore. The issue received a robust response, with 143 bids submitted by a diverse range of investors, including provident funds, pension funds, insurance companies, mutual funds, and corporate entities.
3. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has reported a significant shift in the composition of the country's external debt, with a notable decrease in the proportion of short-term debt. As of March 2024, this proportion dropped by 2.1 percentage points compared to the previous year, signaling enhanced resilience in India's external sector. Furthermore, the ratio of short-term debt to foreign exchange reserves also witnessed a decline, falling from 22.2% to 19.0% over the same period, underscoring improved stability in the country's external position.
4. India's military contingent has continued its long-standing tradition of participating in the Seychelles National Day military parade, a practice that dates back to 1976. As part of this commitment, the Indian Navy's INS Sunayna arrived at Port Victoria, Seychelles on June 26, 2024, during its extended deployment in the South West Indian Ocean Region.
5. In a significant step towards environmental sustainability, Jaipur Military Station has become the second military station in India to feature a road constructed from recycled plastic waste. The 100-meter-long road, stretching from Sagat Singh Road underbridge to Cubs Corner complex, was inaugurated by Major General R.S. Godara, General Officer Commanding of 61 Sub Area, on June 26, 2024. This eco-friendly initiative is in line with the Indian Army's vision to create sustainable and environmentally conscious military stations. The project was undertaken in collaboration with GE (South) and CE Jaipur Zone, with technical assistance from Deep Constructions Pvt. Ltd. Notably, roads made from plastic waste offer several advantages over traditional roads, including increased durability, reduced maintenance, and improved water resistance, ultimately contributing to a more sustainable future.
6. A recent analysis by Morgan Stanley, a prominent American multinational investment bank and financial services company, has expressed admiration for India's PM Gati Shakti initiative. The report underscores the scheme's potential to drive more focused and substantial investments, indicating a sustained commitment to infrastructure development in India's future growth strategy.
7. In a significant move to enhance the knowledge and capabilities of Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel, Director General Manoj Yadava launched the innovative Sangyaan App today. Developed by the RPF Tech Team, this cutting-edge platform provides in-depth insights into three newly introduced criminal laws: the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023, the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) 2023, and the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA) 2023. The app is designed to educate and empower RPF personnel by offering comprehensive information on both new and existing criminal laws, highlighting their relevance to RPF operations.
