1.On Friday, Moody’s Ratings confirmed the Baa3 ratings for three Indian public sector banks: Bank of Baroda (BOB), Canara Bank, and Punjab National Bank (PNB). The agency upheld stable outlooks on their long-term ratings, attributing this to enhanced credit metrics, robust profitability, and sufficient liquidity reserves. Moody’s expects that the strong operating environment in India will sustain the credit fundamentals of these banks over the next 12 to 18 months.

 

2. The Export-Import Bank of India (India Exim Bank) has opened a new East Africa Representative Office in Nairobi, Kenya. This move is part of a strategy to increase India's business presence in East Africa, a region known for its rich resources and young population. The initiative aims to strengthen trade and investment connections between India, Kenya, and the wider East African area.

 

3. Raj Priy Singh, an officer from the 2010 batch of the Indian Forest Service (IFoS), has been named Director in the Department of Rural Development, which falls under the Ministry of Rural Development. His appointment comes after a recommendation for Central deputation by the Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change and is in accordance with the Central Staffing Scheme (CSS).

 

4. ISRO has unveiled a collaborative Indo-French mission called TRISHNA (Thermal Infra-Red Imaging Satellite for High-Resolution Natural Resource Assessment). This infrared earth observation satellite aims to monitor surface temperatures and assist in global water management efforts.

 

5. To address the needs of Non-Resident Indians (NRIs), the Haryana government has set up two dedicated cells focused on resolving their issues and facilitating investments. Announced by Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar during the Pravasi Haryana Divas 2017, these cells are designed to streamline the grievance resolution and investment processes for NRIs.

 

6. Each year on June 9th, the world marks World Accreditation Day, an initiative created by the International Accreditation Forum (IAF) and the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC). This annual observance seeks to highlight the crucial role of accreditation in enhancing numerous facets of life, including consumer protection, societal well-being, business operations, and government regulations.

 

7. Vellayan Subbiah, the Executive Vice Chairman of Tube Investments of India (TII) and Chairman of Cholamandalam Investment and Finance Co Ltd., has been honored with the prestigious EY World Entrepreneur of the Year 2024 award. This achievement marks the fourth time an entrepreneur from India has received this global accolade. His innovative leadership and transformative strategies have driven TII and Chola to exceptional levels of success, garnering him international recognition.
