·     Oleg Kononenko, a cosmonaut for Roscosmos currently stationed on the International Space Station, has achieved a historic milestone, becoming the first person in the world to accumulate 1,000 days in space.

 

·       The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has made a notable move to improve services for pensioners by collaborating with four major banks. These partnerships are formalized through Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) to set up SPARSH service centers in 1,128 branches across the country. SPARSH, which stands for System for Pension Administration (RAKSHA), is a web-based platform designed to streamline pension processing and ensure direct deposit into the bank accounts of defense pensioners. 

 

·         NPCI International has partnered with the Reserve Bank of Peru to launch a real-time payments system similar to India's UPI in Peru. This initiative represents a groundbreaking development for South America, intending to transform Peru's financial sector. By adopting the widely acclaimed Unified Payment Interface (UPI) technology from India, this collaboration seeks to promote economic growth and enhance financial inclusion in Peru.

 

·       Arka Fincap Limited, a subsidiary of Kirloskar Oil Engines Limited, has achieved a significant milestone by securing a Corporate Agency License from the IRDAI. This new license enables Arka to expand into insurance distribution, thereby enriching its current portfolio of financial solutions to better serve its customers' needs.

 

·       In the face of increasing Western sanctions, India's dependence on Russian oil has experienced notable changes. Although imports have decreased due to the challenges posed by these sanctions, Russia has continued to be India's top oil supplier for the second year in a row.

 

·        On June 5, to mark World Environment Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi initiated the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign by planting a Peepal tree sapling at Buddha Jayanti Park in Delhi. He was joined by Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav and Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena.

 

·         In response to the evolving Indian securities markets, SEBI has formed a committee led by Usha Thorat, former Deputy Governor of the RBI. This committee is tasked with evaluating and suggesting improvements to the ownership and economic structure of clearing corporations.
