About Exam-

The Combined Defence Services (CDS) examination is a highly esteemed competitive exam in India, conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). MODE OF SELECTION:-

Written Examination: The written examination consists of three papers for IMA, INA, and AFA, and two papers for OTA candidates. The papers include:

For Indian Military Academy (IMA), Indian Naval Academy (INA), and Air Force Academy (AFA):

·       English (2 hours, 100 marks)

·       General Knowledge (2 hours, 100 marks)

·       Elementary Mathematics (2 hours, 100 marks)

·       For Officers' Training Academy (OTA):

·       English (2 hours, 100 marks)

·       General Knowledge (2 hours, 100 marks)

Note: There is no Elementary Mathematics paper for OTA candidates. The exam consists of objective-type multiple-choice questions. Each paper is of 100 marks.

There is a negative marking of one-third of the marks assigned to a question for each incorrect answer.

2. Interview and Personality Test:

Candidates who qualify the written examination are called for an interview conducted by the Services Selection Board (SSB). The interview process evaluates the candidate's personality, communication skills, leadership potential, and suitability for a career in the armed forces. The SSB interview consists of various stages over a span of multiple days, including:

·       Stage I: Officer Intelligence Rating (OIR) and Picture Perception & Description Test (PP&DT).

·       Stage II: Psychological Tests, Group Testing Officer Tasks, Interview, and Conference.

ELIGIBILITY

Nationality: Indian or subject of Nepal/Bhutan, Tibetan refugee who came over to India before 1st January 1962, or a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries, or Vietnam.

Age Limit:

·       For Indian Military Academy (IMA): 19-24 years

·       For Indian Naval Academy (INA): 19-24 years

·       For Air Force Academy (AFA): 20-24 years

·       For Officers' Training Academy (OTA): 19-25 years

·       Educational Qualifications: Vary based on the academy.

HOW TO FILL EXAM FORM

1. Online Registration:

Visit the official UPSC website (www.upsc.gov.in) or the designated application portal.

Look for the CDS exam notification or link for online registration.

Click on the link to start the registration process.

2. New Registration:

Click on the option for new registration or to apply for the CDS exam.

Fill in your basic details such as name, date of birth, email address, mobile number, and other required information.

You will receive a registration number and password on your provided email and mobile number.

3. Fill Application Form:

Log in using the registration number and password.

Fill in personal details, educational qualifications, choice of examination center, etc., as required.

4. Upload Documents:

Upload scanned copies of your passport-sized photograph and signature as per the specified format and size.

5. Fee Payment:

Pay the exam fee through the provided modes of payment (usually online).

Make sure to keep a copy of the payment receipt for future reference.

6. Final Review:

Review all the information you've entered to ensure accuracy.

Make corrections if needed.

7. Submit Form:

Once you are satisfied with all the entered information, submit the application form.

8. Print Application:

After successful submission, download and print the submitted application form for your records.

9. Admit Card:

UPSC will release the admit cards for eligible candidates before the exam. You can download your admit card from the UPSC website using your registration number and date of birth.

1. English:

·       Vocabulary: Synonyms, Antonyms, Homonyms, Words commonly confused, One-word substitutions, etc.

·       Grammar: Sentence structure, Subject-verb agreement, Tenses, Verbs, Adjectives, Adverbs, Prepositions, Articles, Conjunctions, etc.

·       Comprehension: Reading passages followed by questions to assess understanding and interpretation.

·       Spotting Errors: Identify grammatical errors in sentences.

·       Sentence Arrangement: Rearrange jumbled sentences to form coherent paragraphs.

·       Fill in the Blanks: Complete sentences by filling in the missing words.

2. General Knowledge:

·       Current Affairs: National and international events, awards, honors, sports, etc.

·       History: Ancient, medieval, modern Indian history, and world history.

·       Geography: Physical, political, and economic geography of India and the world.

·       Polity: Indian Constitution, political system, Panchayati Raj, rights and duties.

·       Economics: Basics of economics, economic terms, national income, poverty, inflation, etc.

·       Science: Physics, Chemistry, Biology, general principles, and applications.

·       Defense: Defense-related current events, armed forces, weapons, technology.

3. Elementary Mathematics:

·       Arithmetic: Number System, Unitary Method, Time and Distance, Time and Work, Percentage, Profit and Loss, Ratio and Proportion, Variation, etc.

·       Algebra: Basic operations, Linear equations, Quadratic equations, Sets, Venn diagrams, etc.

·       Geometry: Lines and angles, Triangles, Quadrilaterals, Circles, Areas of figures, etc.

·       Mensuration: Areas and volumes of geometrical shapes.

·       Trigonometry: Trigonometric ratios, Trigonometric identities, Heights and distances.
