Formation of Rajya Sabha

According to Article 80, Rajya Sabha will have a maximum of 250 members out of which 238 will be elected by the members of state assemblies and 12 will be nominated by the President from among the persons having special knowledge in the field of art, literature, science and social service.

250  =  238 + 12 Maximum

245  =  233 + 12 At present

The members of the Rajya Sabha are elected by the elected members of the state legislative assemblies, that is, the election of the members of the Rajya Sabha is indirect.
