Madhya Pradesh holds the distinction of being the first state in India to promote organic farming. 

जैविक खेती मिट्टी की उर्वरता को बनाये रखने तथा पर्यावरण संतुलन को बनाये रखने के लिए आज की महती आवश्यकता है। देश में जैविक खेती को प्रोत्साहित करने वाले प्रथम राज्य का गौरव मध्यप्रदेश को ने सर्वप्रथम 2001-02 में जैविक खेती का आंदोलन चलाकर प्रत्येक जिले के प्राप्त है। म.प्र. प्रत्येक विकास खण्ड के एक गाँव में जैविक खेती प्रारंभ की गई और इन गाँवों को "जैविक गाँव" नाम दिया गया । इस प्रकार प्रथम वर्ष में कुल 313 ग्रामों में जैविक खेती की शुरूआत हुई । प्रदेश के प्रत्येक जिले में जैविक खेती के प्रचार-प्रसार विभिन्न माध्यमों से करके कृषकों में जन-जागृति फैलाई जा रही है, ताकि जैविक खेती को अधिक से अधिक बढ़ावा दिया जा सके ।

Organic farming is a crucial necessity today for maintaining soil fertility and preserving environmental balance. Madhya Pradesh holds the distinction of being the first state in India to promote organic farming.  It launched the organic farming movement in 2001-02, initiating the practice in one village of each development block in every district. These villages were designated as "organic villages." Thus, organic farming was started in a total of 313 villages in the first year. Awareness campaigns are being conducted among farmers in every district of the state through various means to promote organic farming and encourage its widespread adoption.
