रूददामन के जूनागढ़ अभिलेख से मालूम होता है कि गुजरात (सौराष्ट्र) में चंद्रगुप्त का गवर्नर (प्रांतप्रति) गुरूगुप्त शासन करता था इसके अधीन मध्यप्रदेश का मालवा और अवंति क्षेत्र आता था ।
It is known from the Junagadh inscription of Ruddaman that Chandragupta's governor (Prantprati) Gurugupta ruled in Gujarat (Saurashtra), under whom came the Malwa and Avanti regions of Madhya Pradesh.
यह अभिलेख दर्शाता है कि मौर्यकाल में गुजरात से लेकर मध्यप्रदेश तक एक सुव्यवस्थित प्रशासनिक तंत्र कार्यरत था।इससे यह भी सिद्ध होता है कि मौर्य साम्राज्य का पश्चिमी और मध्य भारत पर मज़बूत नियंत्रण था। This inscription demonstrates that during the Mauryan period, a well-organized administrative system existed from Gujarat to Madhya Pradesh.It also proves that the Mauryan Empire had strong control over western and central India.
तीसरी शताब्दी ईस्वी पूर्व में बिंदुसार के शासनकाल में अशोक 11 वर्ष तक अवन्तिका प्रांतपाल था उसने उज्जयनी को अपनी राजधानी बनाया गुर्जरा एवं रूपनाथ शिलालेख से भी अशोक के शासन की जानकारी मिलती है ।
During the reign of Bindusara in the third century BC, Ashoka was the governor of Avantika for 11 years. He made Ujjaini his capital. Information about Ashoka's rule is also available from the Gurjara and Rupnath inscriptions.
गुर्जरा शिलालेख में अशोक का नाम अशोक , देवनामप्रिय , प्रियदर्शिन, मिलता है ।
In the Gurjara inscription, Ashoka's name is found as Ashoka, Devnam, Priya, Priyadarshin.
अशोक की भेट विदिशा या बेसनगर में एक शक वंश के व्यापारी की पुत्री कुमारदेवी से हुई जिससे उसने विवाह किया यह वर्णन महावंश में मिलता है।
Ashoka met Kumaradevi, the daughter of a Shaka merchant in Vidisha or Besnagar, and married her. This description is found in Mahavamsa.
गुप्तकाल तक सांची का नाम काकनादबोट था यहां से अशोक का संघभेद अभिलेख मिला है जिसमें उसने संघभेद को रोकने के लिए राजाज्ञा प्रदान की थी ।
Till the Gupta period, Sanchi was known as Kakanadbot. Ashoka's Sanghabhed inscription was found here in which he issued a royal decree to stop the Sanghabhed.
