What is the percentage of water in the body of an animal?

Normally, the percentage of major elements found in the body of animals is as follows (this percentage is average and there may be slight differences for all species):

Element Percentage (%)

Water 60 – 70%

Protein 15 – 20%

Fat 10 – 20% (depending on physical condition)

Minerals 3 – 5%

Carbohydrates Less than 1%

In detail:

Water: Helps in controlling body temperature, transport of nutrients and metabolic activities.

Protein: Main component of muscles, organs, enzymes and hormones.

Fat: Storage of energy, part of cell membrane and useful in hormone synthesis.

Minerals: Necessary for bones, teeth, blood, and enzyme functions (such as calcium, phosphorus, iron, potassium, etc.).

Carbohydrates: Quick source of energy, but are present in very small amounts in the body.
