MGNREGA
The Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), enacted in 2005, is a landmark labour law that guarantees the 'right to work' for rural households in India. It ensures a minimum of 100 days of wage employment per financial year to adult members willing to do unskilled manual work. This scheme plays a crucial role in promoting livelihood security, curbing rural-urban migration, and enabling asset creation in rural India. Initially rolled out in 200 most backward districts, it was later extended to all rural districts across the country.
