Which Balod district of Chhattisgarh has been officially declared as India's first child marriage free district

Balod district takes the lead in the "Child Marriage Free India" campaign

Balod district in Chhattisgarh has achieved a remarkable milestone under the "Child Marriage Free India" campaign launched by the Government of India on August 27, 2024. All 436 gram panchayats and 9 urban local bodies in the district have been issued certificates of "Child Marriage Free Zones."

The district administration, community participation, and extensive public awareness campaigns played a key role in this success. UNICEF also contributed significantly through awareness programs and technical support.

The state government has now set a target to make the entire state of Chhattisgarh child marriage free by the financial year 2028-29.
